Vantage account reviewFormula & worked example
Spread cost = spread in pips × pip value per lot × lots
For a USD account and a 100,000-unit EUR/USD contract, one pip is $10 per standard lot. At 0.1 lot and a 1.2-pip spread, the cost is 1.2 × $10 × 0.1 = $1.20. At 0.01 lot it is $0.12; at 1 lot it is $12. These are illustrative spreads, not broker quotes.
Before opening an account
- Confirm the contract size: this example assumes 100,000 EUR per standard lot.
- A non-USD account requires a pip value already converted into that account currency.
- Add commission and overnight charges in the full spread and fees calculator before comparing accounts.
Common questions
What is the pip value of EUR/USD?
With a 100,000-unit contract, a 0.0001 price move is $10 per standard lot. That is $1 for 0.1 lot and $0.10 for 0.01 lot. Other account currencies require conversion.
Is spread charged twice on a complete trade?
This estimate counts one spread for entry and exit combined, assuming an unchanged midpoint and spread. A widening spread or execution slippage changes the actual result.
